Spearmint oil

Spearmint oil is extracted from the flowers of the plant, using steam. Although it is native to the Mediterranean, we use Chinese spearmint oil. Spearmint is commonly used in toothpaste, mouthwash and gum and, when combined with peppermint, it becomes doublemint!

What does it do?

- Peppermint has a sweet, minty aroma used to perfume our products.

- Peppermint oil livens up dull skin and leaves it feeling refreshed.

- Peppermint oil is cooling and reviving, making it perfect for our Fairtrade Foot Lotion.

- Aromatherapists use peppermint oil for skin conditions, headaches and stress!

Witch Hazel

Common witch hazel is native to North America, and produces vivid yellow flowers. It is said to have leaves that are similar to the hazel plant, which is where the plant may have got it's name. To extract the witch hazel, the bark and twigs of the plant are dried and then steamed.

What does it do?

- Witch hazel is antibacterial, protecting against bacteria. Good news for Grease Lightning, bad news for spots!

- Witch hazel is anti-inflammatory, helping to prevent irritation on sensitive or red skin.

- Witch hazel is astringent, which means it has a tightening effect. So that's why Ayesha is good for that instant 'lifted' feeling!

Peppermint & Peppermint Oil

Peppermint has been used medicinally for thousands of years. Peppermint oil is steam distilled from the leaves and flowers of the peppermint plant. It naturally contains menthol and has a minty aroma with herbal undertones. We source our peppermint for Squeaky Green locally in Ringwood during the summer, and from Israel in the winter.

What does it do?

- Peppermint feels cooling, as menthol dilates blood vessels in the skin.

- Peppermint has a refreshing aroma!

- Peppermint has a toning effect on the skin.

- Peppermint has an invigorating effect on the scalp and skin.

Extra Virgin Olive Oil

Olives grow on trees that can live for thousands of years. The oil can be extracted using machinery, although extraction by hand is the preferred method. Extra virgin olive oil preserves the most of the olives nutritious qualities and gives the oil a greener color. Olive oil has been used for many years: ancient Egyptians mixed it with beeswax as a cleanser, and ancient Greeks used it for massage.

What does it do?

- Olive oil contains Hydroxytyrosol: said to be the most powerful antioxidant in the world!

- Olive oil is great at protecting the skin from discoloration and damage.

- Olive oil is rich in nutritious vitamin E, feeding the skin and hair.

Charcoal

Charcoal is carbonized wood, which is burned in kilns for up to sixteen hours. We use local Dorset charcoal which is more expensive, but it is high quality and sustainable. We are proud to support a local business and use ingredients that don't disturb the natural Eco-system.

What does it do?

- Charcoal absorbs excess oil from the skin.

Sandalwood Oil

Sandalwood oil comes from the sandalwood tree, which has be at least thirty years old before it is ready to harvest. The oil is extracted from the inner heartwood using steam distillation. We use Caledonian and Australian sandalwood oil.

What does it do?

- Sandalwood is highly valued in perfumery, having a warm, woody aroma. We used it as a base note and a fixative.

- Aromatherapists use sandalwood as an anti-depressant.

- Sandalwood is astringent, antiseptic and can reduce inflammation, making it amazing on acne prone skin.

- Sandalwood oil is an emollient. Emollients help to soothe, cool and soften the skin.
